Our band program is led by a team of highly skilled and passionate music educators. With years of professional experience in performance, conducting, and music education, our instructors are dedicated to nurturing each student's musical journey.

Chance Krause

Band Director

Chance Krause started his musical career as a band kid in Springtown, Texas where he performed in regional jazz bands, all-state ensembles and a state finalist marching band.  In 2017, he graduated from Southern Methodist University, where he performed in the Meadows Wind Ensemble and Jazz Orchestra while earning his degree in music education. After graduation, Chance spent two years teaching middle school and beginning band in Dallas before moving to California’s Bay Area. There, he became the Director of Instrumental Music at Clayton Valley High School, where he taught high school band, orchestra, jazz band, and competitive marching band. Chance received his Masters Degree in Music Education from Boston University in 2025, and is excited to join Saugus Middle High School and become a part of the community.

Evan Smith

Chorus Director

Evan Smith has been the chorus director at Saugus Middle High School since the 2021-2022 school year and the director of Tonal Chaos since 2022. An alumni of Saugus Public Schools, Evan went on to study music performance and education at the University of Massachusetts Lowell and has been playing music since he was in fourth grade.
