Well, that went fast! Another school year has come to an end and as usual, the Saugus Middle/High School Band and Chorus programs were busy during the winter and spring months.

In February, the High School Concert Band had several students audition for the Northeastern District Junior and Senior district bands. Students prepared required pieces and memorized scales. It was a great experience for the students that auditioned and there are even more students interested in auditioning next year! Let's give a round of applause to the students that auditioned: Gabriel Menendez-Rosa, Josephine Pepper, Kyle Donahue (Senior Districts) and Cornyn Meas, Rania Mrabat and Noah Gosselin (Junior Districts).
In May, the 6th Grade Band and Chorus attended a New Hampshire Fisher Cats baseball game and were invited to perform and sing the National Anthem. A video of the event can be found on our Saugus Band Parents Facebook page
Also in May, the 7th - 12th Grade Band and Chorus groups performed in front of an adjudication panel in Springfield and received positive feedback on their performances as well as positive reinforcement on what they did well and ways to further improve. All of the groups that attended - the 7th/8th Grade band, the High School Band, and the Mixed Chorus group - received an Excellent rating and placed 2nd in their divisions. The events were followed by trips to Six Flags.

The annual Spring Concerts were held in May for friends and families of the SMHS students. The High School concert was up first with performances of several contemporary songs (Chorus - Elton John: I’m Still Standing, Cranberries: Linger, and Band - Queen: Bohemian Rhapsody) as well as more traditional songs. The Middle/High School Jazz Band also performed. Next up was the Middle School concert which featured the Concert Band, Chorus, and Jazz Band. The highlights of the night included a combined band and chorus rendition of Hamilton’s “My Shot” and the SMS “Faculty Percussion Ensemble”.
The SBPA scholarship winner was also announced during the Middle School concert. We are pleased to announce our 2024-2025 SBPA Scholarship winner, Raneem Tuffaha. Raneem is a member of Tonal Chaos, the SHS a capella group and will be attending the University of Massachusetts, Boston in the fall. Congratulations!

The last performance of the year was during the High School Graduation ceremony for the class of 2025. The Chorus did a fantastic job in front of a large crowd and the performance included soloists Mels P. and Sophia N.
As we look forward to summer and start thinking about next year, I want to thank all of our SBPA volunteers who devoted their personal time to help support these wonderful students and to coordinate the fundraising efforts that lead to all of the extra perks of being in the Band and Chorus. As always, we are constantly looking for more family members to get involved in the SBPA to support these kids. The time commitment is small and if you are interested in helping out next year, please reach out to us at saugusbandparents@gmail.com.
